Every Bera pair begins with carefully selected leather and skilled hands. Our craftsmen mark each piece of the design on the leather and cut it by hand using traditional tools and techniques. Each piece is cut with care to achieve the right shape, size, and fit. This careful first step creates a strong foundation for the upper and prepares the leather for the detailed work that follows.
Binding and Smoothing the Edges
Our craftsmen carefully prepare each leather strap for a clean, smooth finish. They apply strong adhesive by hand along the edges before folding the leather inward. This covers the rough edges and gives each strap a neat and comfortable finish. Once the edges are in place, they are secured and prepared for the hand-stitching that follows.
Precision Bonding & Edge Setting
Once the leather edges are carefully folded and the adhesive is applied, our craftsmen begin the bonding process. Using a specialized hand tool, they press the folded layers firmly against a solid block, applying even pressure along the entire edge. This careful pressing removes trapped air and helps the adhesive bond the leather securely. Each strap is then left with a smooth, seamless edge that holds its shape, strengthens the structure, and gives every Bera chappal a clean and refined finish.
Handcrafted Comfort & Support
Comfort is built into every Bera chappal. A concealed layer of high-density memory foam is carefully placed within the sole to provide soft cushioning while maintaining the clean shape of the footwear. Our craftsmen press and shape the foam by hand, ensuring it sits securely within the midsole and provides balanced support with every step. Handcrafted Contrast Edge Binding
A contrasting leather strip is carefully hand-bound around the edge of the sole to give the chappal a clean and defined finish. Our craftsmen work around the entire perimeter by hand, carefully securing the binding to protect the layers within the sole while creating a smooth transition between the upper and the foundation. Hand-Cut Rubber Soles
Every Bera chappal is built on a carefully crafted rubber sole designed for lasting grip and everyday wear. Instead of relying solely on standard molding or die-cutting, our craftsmen manually cut each sole using a traditional curved knife on a solid wooden cutting block. They carefully shape the rubber to follow the contours of the chappal, paying close attention to its size, edges, and overall form. This hands-on process gives each sole a precise fit, dependable traction, and the distinctive character that comes from traditional craftsmanship.
Hand-Stitched Strength & Detail
Hand-stitching is one of the defining details of Bera craftsmanship. Using strong, waxed thread, our craftsmen carefully stitch the leather edge binding through the foundation of the chappal, securing the layers firmly together. Each stitch is placed with care to strengthen the construction while adding a distinctive handcrafted detail to the finished footwear. Reinforced Heel Construction
The heel is carefully reinforced to provide added strength, stability, and lasting support. Our craftsmen apply a strong adhesive by hand before adding an additional layer to strengthen the heel foundation. At this stage, the carefully prepared leather upper is brought together with the layered sole to form the main structure of the Bera chappal. Traditional Hand-Finished Construction
The final stage of construction takes place at the craftsman's workbench, where the assembled chappal is carefully checked and prepared for its finishing stitches. Small, specialized tacks are individually placed by hand to temporarily secure the overlapping leather straps to the layered foundation. This step gives our craftsmen the opportunity to carefully adjust the position, spacing, and alignment of each strap, ensuring that every part sits exactly where it should. Once the alignment is checked and the structure is properly balanced, the final hand-stitching is added to permanently secure the leather components to the foundation. Every adjustment is made with patience and attention to detail, helping create a strong, balanced, and neatly finished Bera chappal while preserving the traditional character of handcrafted Pakistani footwear.
Shaping the Bera Chappal by Hand
The final character of every Bera chappal takes shape during the hand-lasting process. Our craftsmen carefully place the fully assembled chappal over a traditional wooden mold, known as a last, and gradually stretch and shape the leather around it by hand. Working carefully around the curves and contours, they adjust the leather to achieve an even shape, balanced structure, and comfortable fit. The wooden last provides the foundation for the leather to settle into its intended form, helping maintain its shape while the materials come together naturally. Each section is checked and refined by hand to ensure the leather sits smoothly without unnecessary folds or unevenness. Once the shaping is complete, the Bera chappal is left with a defined profile and carefully formed structure that reflects the patience, precision, and traditional craftsmanship behind every pair.
